Health

Too many Americans are going without health care or struggling to keep pace the ever increasing cost of receiving care.  I believe we can provide access to health care for every American who wants it by improving our current system to expand health care coverage and reduce costs.  I believe that this can and should be done without making the government the sole health care provider.

I am confident, however, that this challenge we can overcome. That's why I and my colleagues in House GOP Leadership have introduced a commonsense plan to increase affordability, accessibility, and availability. You can read just how we'd do that here.

For even more details and interviews about the plan, check out my YouTube page. For the full GOP Press Conference unveiling our health care plan, check out the transcript.

I believe there are four steps that Congress must take in order to expand access to affordable health care options. First, individuals should be able to receive the same tax benefits large employers use to provide health coverage. Second, we must enact regulatory reforms to allow families to shop around the country for the right plan. Third, we must invest in greater use of health information technology, like electronic health records and e-prescribing, which could save over $80 billion annually. Finally, there must be a greater focus on prevention and wellness. Doing so will save lives, money and make America healthier.

But in taking these steps, we must be careful not to enact policies that would hinder new innovations in providing care. Americans have access to the greatest doctors and medical facilities in the world, and we have come to expect to receive only the best possible care.
