Agriculture

Michigan has a strong and vibrant agricultural economy, and its steady growth has buoyed our state economy during this difficult economic climate. The Fourth District, in particular, has some of the most hard working, dedicated, and successful farmers in the country. I am committed to making sure that this continues. In 2008, I was pleased to help pass a new Farm Bill, which is vital in stabilizing agricultural prices and making sure the programs are in place to keep demand for our commodities and specialty crops high. Energy prices and a steady labor supply are also key determinants of the success of our farmers. I will continue to work in Congress on policies that ensure input prices are low and a reliable and steady labor supply is available so that Michigan farmers can get their products to market.
