The Congressional Art Competition is sponsored by the United States House of Representatives. Over 300 Members of Congress participate in this program. Congressman Camp enthusiastically supports the competition, and he looks forward to viewing the final show and meeting the young artists each year.The contest takes place in the spring and is open to any high school student in the Fourth Congressional District. The winning entry will be displayed for a year in the U.S. Capitol. Prizes will also be awarded to four regional winners. Students may select their own theme for the competition. Artwork must be an original concept and may not violate any U.S. copyright laws. Artwork may not be reproduced from photos, paintings or other works. It must be two-dimensional and no larger than 32 inches by 32 inches and four inches deep including the outside dimensions of the frame. Eligible categories include paintings, drawings, collages, prints, mixed media, computer generated art and photography.The Congressional Art Competition is professionally juried and prizes are awarded by local galleries and arts suppliers. The first place piece is transported to Washington, D.C., and hangs in the United States Capitol tunnel for one year. The winning artist is invited to Washington, D.C. in June to be honored at an event with winning artists from all over the country.
Each high school in Congressman Camp's district receives an invitation to participate in early spring. This competition is an excellent opportunity for young artists to be challenged on a national level and be recognized for their talent and creativity at the local level.
